Ke Huy Quan, previously professionally known as Jonathan Ke Quan, is a child actor and stunt coordinator who portrayed Data in The Goonies.

Life and career[]

Born on August 20, 1971 in Saigon, South Vietnam (modern day Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) as Ke Huy Quan, Quan's family sought refuge in the United States following the Fall of Saigon in 1975.

His most well-known film roles were his first two: Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Data in The Goonies. He has also starred in a number of Taiwan, Japanese, and Hong Kong movies, as well as miscellaneous television series like Together We Stand and Head of the Class. His last acting role for a number of years was in 2002 for Second Time Around.

During filming for Temple of Doom, he was trained in taekwondo. Following further training after the fact, Quan left the field of acting to work instead as a stunt coordinator. Films he has helped with stunts include X-Men and The One.

He had a significant career resurgence in the 2020s, with a supporting role in Finding 'Ohana in 2021, then a major role alongside Michelle Yeoh as Waymond Wang in Everything Everywhere All at Once in 2022, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor (the first for an Asian American actor since Haing S. Ngor in 1985, and the first-ever for an actor of Vietnamese descent). Since 2023, he is again active on television, playing the lead role of Jamie Yao (a fictionalized version of himself) in the series American Born Chinese.

As of 2024, he is slated to perform in Kung Fu Panda 4, The Electric State, and With Love.
