The Hillside is a neighborhood of Astoria, Oregon, where Andy and Troy Perkins are meant to live.[1]
Involvement[]
Those living in the Hillside district are known to look down and even bully those who live in the Goon Docks.
The location is never depicted or seen in The Goonies.
Behind the scenes[]
In scripts for The Goonies, the Hillside is more present. The Astoria Country Club was originally known as the "Hillside Country Club".
The location was also included in and referred to more in the novelization of the film.
Trivia[]
- Similar to "Goonies", those from the Hillside are sometime referred to as "Hillsiders".[1]
- A reference to this location reappeared four years later in the film Back to the Future II. In the future of 2015, a neighborhood called Hilldale is an impoverished neighborhood where a policewoman remarks is a breeding ground for all types of lowlives and her partner agrees that it should be condemned. One of the policewomen was played by Mary Ellen Trainor. This is not noticed by the protagonist Marty McFly, who remarks "All right!" to his future self living in this neighborhood as opposed to his childhood home in Lyon Estates, which parallels the squalor of the Goon Docks. In the third and final film, Hilldale is seen in 1985, as a new development of expensive houses akin to Hillside.
